September Offer
The September Offer is where all young people leaving school will be offered a suitable place in learning by the end of September. This offer is also open to 17 year olds who may have done a one year course or who opt out of their chosen destination.
The offer can be in any of the following:
- Full or part time education
- Apprenticeship or Programme led Apprenticeship
- Employment with training to NVQ level 2
- Entry to employment
Raising of Participation Age
You may have heard of the plans to raise the participation age to 18 by 2015, the new Government are still committed to this decision. So what does this mean to you; if your child started secondary educaiton:
- in 2008 they will continue in learning until they are 17.
- in 2009 they will continue in learnung until they are 18.
Raising the participation age doesn’t necessarily they will have to stay on at school, when your child reaches the age of 16 they will have the option to choose any of the following:
- full-time education i.e sixth form/college.
- work-based learning i.e. do an apprenticeship programme.
- part-time education or training if they are employed, self employed or volunteering for more than 20 hours a week.
Child Benefit
Is your child about to leave Year 11, if so they need to register for work or training at Doncaster Connexions centre from Monday 27th June 2011. Once your child has done this you will be able to access Child Benefit for them. For further information about child benefit, click on www.direct.gov.uk
Child Employment
Your child is able to work as long as they are 13 years old, however there are some jobs that they will be unable to do such as selling alcohol and cigerattes. They will be restricted to the hours they can work for example it’s against the law for your child to work before 7am and after 7pm.
